Stopping Illegal Immigration and Protecting the Border

As the campaign season for the 2008 Elections are now well underway, some of the topics of debate, and what used to be major debate issues seem to have fallen by the wayside. The one that seems to have vanished from the radar, is Immigration, yet it is just as important now as it was then. So I want to make sure, for the record, that everyone knows where I stand on this important issue.

Immigration is not simply a problem depicted by job lose, it is much more. According the Federation for American Immigration Reform in 2006 approximately 11-12 million illegals now reside in the United States, and it is estimated to increase by approximately 500,000 each year after (1). This continual influx of illegals is destroying our nation. It puts our families in danger physically and economically. Hundreds of thousands of Americans are estimated to lose their jobs to illegal workers who will work for less, each year, and it is because those we have elected to Congress have not enforced the immigration laws we already have, and instead are trying to break them down along with the current Executive Administration.

We must act now. We have to begin deporting illegal aliens immediately when they are caught committing a crime, or through other means within the bounds of the Constitution. When employers hire illegal immigrants they must be held accountable and pay for the crime, not just slapped on the wrist. We must stop the government from giving illegals those tax-payer benefits such as welfare, and from simply leaving the border open. Border troops must be allowed to do their job, as Jose Compean and Ignacio Ramos did and are now in prison for it. We must build the border fence, and provide those defending the border with the necessary means and tools to do so, while allowing them to prevent illegal border crossings.

America uses its military abroad all over the world to police, and defend other nation's borders and provides adequate means to do so, while not providing the needed defense and protection of our own border from foreign invasion (as slow as it may come). We need, no we must bring our troops home from this unconstitutional War in Iraq and the global War on Terror, and use them to defend our own border, not Iraq's or some other nation. If the current administration and Congress are so worried about Terrorist and what they could do to America, why have we stretched our military so thin over the world, and left our own borders wide open for millions of undocumented illegal aliens to invade our nation. No, all the illegal aliens which enter our southern border do not come from Central America. They come from all over the world, including nations which we deem as threats and those which are feared to harbor terrorist, such as Iran and Korea.

If we really want to protect ourselves against terrorist why are we leaving the back door wide open for all to see? We must begin to truly protect our borders and use our military to do so. We must deport those here illegally as soon as possible to protect our nation's security and the jobs of the American citizens. We must stop birth-right citizenship, and formally declare that English is the official language for business in the United State of America. I believe we can still accomplish these important tasks, and I promise to fight to protect our borders in the US Congress as your representative.
